THE COLORADO ADVISORY NETWORK'S DIRECTOR
MARY ANNE FLEURY, M.A.

The Colorado Advisory Network , based in Littleton, Colorado, was founded in February of 1996 by Mary Anne Fleury. Mary Anne is the current Executive Director for the organization. C.A.N. is governed by a board of directors comprised of parents and professionals in the field of special needs.

Mary Anne received her undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Dayton in Ohio in 1981.  In 1988, she received her Master's degree in Learning Disabilities, with certification in teaching the Emotionally Disturbed, from the University of Northern Colorado.

Mary Anne has been active in the field of education for 17 years teaching, speaking and consulting.  Her teaching experiences include regular education as well as many years of teaching special education. She most recently taught special education in Douglas County, Colorado.  She has spoken to numerous groups of parents and teachers on issues including:  rights of children with special needs, behavior management, learning styles, learning centers, modifications, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Learning Disabilities.

On a personal note, Mary Anne is married with four young children.  She experiences the ups and downs of parenthood on a daily basis, but wouldn't trade it for the world.  

Mary Anne's vision for the Colorado Advisory Network is to continue to provide a multitude of services to all parents and schools in need.  Mary Anne holds to the belief that the world can be a great place for all children, and that schools and parents can be partners on the same team. She cannot remember a time when children with special needs were not in her uppermost thoughts. Her commitment to the network remains firm, even though the road is long and definitely winding!  

The services that the Colorado Advisory Network provides are:  individual consultation for parents and students, a weekly question and answer column called Parentline through Digital City Denver on America Online (and now on the web), current online articles pertaining to hot topics in the special needs area, workshops for the community on special education issues, referral services, and personal advisement at special education staffings and meetings.  

The Network has received thousands of questions from around the country.  This shows a real need in our community for understanding, empowerment and advisement for the children we hold so dearly.  

As the Colorado Advisory Network expands globally, professionals are beginning to contribute their expertise, helping fulfill the network's mission to meet the needs of children with disabilities. Browse through our site to read articles by these professionals.

We are grateful to  Dr. Cable,    Elliott Schoen , Joan Lazzell   and Dr. Dorry for their dedication to children with special needs. Many little ones will live more functional and happy lives because of the commitment they have made to our community.
